Temperature measurents in refineries

Temperature is critical parameter to be measured and controlled very accurately in order to obtain proper distillation of various products from crude oil .

K-type thermocouple

Commonly used temperature devices in the refineries are:
 - Thermo couples- works on   Seebeck effect
  - Resistance Temp. Devices  (RTD)
Types of thermocouples:
- K type (cromel-alumel)- most commonly used in refineries to measure temp from -200 degC to 1350 deg C.
- T type(copper-constantan) to measure temp from -200 to 350 deg C commonly uses in cryogenic applications
- R type (platinum rhodium-platinum) to measure high temp of 0 degC to 1450 degC with higher accuracy.
